GOOGLE UNVEILS ANDROID 8.0

OREO! OR ORELLET? After months of assumptions ❓, outright hints, and this weekend's inordinate amount of teasing, Google 🌍 has officially named Android 8.0 as Oreo.👍🏻 Today's eclipse-themed 🌚 announcement 🔊 accompanied the annual Android statue unveiling ceremony 🎊 at the Googleplex in Mountain View, as well as an event in New York City.

Earlier today, millions of Americans 🇺🇸 flocked to a strip of land about 70 miles wide 😱 stretching from Portland, Oregon to Columbia, South Carolina to view a once-a-decade total solar eclipse 🌚. Now the totality is over, and everyone is trying to go home 🏠. And as these screenshots from Google maps 🗺 demonstrate, it's causing traffic jams 🛣️ on North-South interstates throughout the path of the totality.

THE EPIC PHOTOBOMB! OF ECLIPSE FROM ISS

While the people of the United States were busy observing the first Total Solar Eclipse in 99 years yesterday (August 21), NASA photographer Joel Kowsky, while looking up from Banner (Wyoming), observed something else. He soon managed to capture a silhouette of the ISS passing in front of the sun at the time of the eclipse. With six crew members on board, the ISS transits the sun at roughly five miles a second during the eclipse. NASA also cleared doubts of people asking whether the visual was of a Sunspot instead, and posted a seven frame composition of the station showing its movement. NASA then tweeted out a composite picture of the photobombing and also uploaded a video of the same on its website.

Shock! It’s been likened to the hand of God but looks more like a meteorite stopped in its tracks as it hurtles towards earth. Amazing pictures of a cloud hanging over Teixeira de Freitas in south-east Brazil have sent social media into a frenzy. Many who pictured the weather phenomenon on Thursday evening said they were initially scared it may be the start of a tornado formation. But it was later confirmed to be dust cloud that had been turned red by the sunset. João Paulo Magalhães who shared footage from a petrol station said: ‘It really looked like the entrance to a meteorite or something. I was scared too, we thought it would form a tornado.’

ONE KILLED AT INAUGURATION OF BAYELSA APC ACTING CHAIRMAN

At least one person has been reported killed during the inauguration of the Acting Chairman of the Bayelsa State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital. This follows the violence that erupted at the venue of the event as many supporters of the party gathered for the commencement of the ceremony. Hoodlums allegedly loyal to the expelled party chairman in the state were said to have invaded the venue firing gunshots to scare the people away.

MYSTERIOUS DISEASE KILLS UP TO 62 IN KOGI

The Kogi State Government has confirmed that about 62 people have been killed by a strange disease in the Western part of the State. As at Thursday, 17th August 2017, the death toll was at 50. Speaking with DAILY POST on the latest development on Friday, the state Commissioner for Health Dr Saka Haruna said information reaching the ministry shows that unknown disease has continued to claim the lives of some children and adults for the past few weeks in Koloke, Okuna, Isanlu-Isa and adjourning Hausa-Fulani communities, all in Yaba-West Local Government Area of Kogi State. “So far, about 62 people have been killed by this mysterious disease. When I visited the affected communities with my team, samples taken from some of the victims were sent to Federal Teaching Hospital Irua, Edo State, for definitive investigation, which turned out to be negative for Lassa Fever. “On arrival at the community, we interacted with the locals and samples were taken from their water sources and food sup

A cash-in-transit heist took place in various parts of South Africa on Tuesday morning after a group of armed robbers launched a brazen attack on two cash-in-transit vehicles driving in convoy on the R49 in the North West's police said.  The Cash Solutions van was annihilated when it was blown up by the ten armed robbers Money fell from the sky when a gang of armed robbers blew up an armoured security van to get at the £1.5million in cash locked inside, Dailymail reports. ASUU AND FG MEETING ENDS INCONCLUSIVELY

President Muhammadu Buhari and ASUU President, Prof. Biodun Ogunyemi Both parties, however, agreed to reconvene within a week to continue the negotiations. 🚨 UPDATED NEWS 🚨 A white van :van: ploughed into a crowd 👩‍👩‍👦‍👦 of people in Las Ramblas area of Barcelona 🇪🇸, in what authorities are treating as a terror attack 😱. The _El Pais_ newspaper reported at least 10 people have died while Cadena Ser radio station 📻 reported 13 people were killed in the attack. Police 👮🏽 have not yet confirmed the number of casualties 💐. Authorities said the vehicle mounted a pavement and struck people 😱 in a "massive crash" 💥 in an area of the city that is popular with tourists. An eyewitness told a Spanish television station 📺 that the suspect was running people 👩‍👩‍👦‍👦 over in his van for nearly 1,000 feet before fleeing into a nearby Turkish restaurant‼️ The witness said the suspect had something in his hand 👀 but he could not tell what it was. Police 👮🏽 sources told ABC News there is also an ongoing hostage 🔫 situation at a nearby restaurant.

HATE SPEECH IS TERRORISM SAYS OSIBANJO.

The Acting President, Yemi Osinbajo, on Wednesday, said the Federal Government has drawn the line on hate speech. He described hate speech as a species of terrorism. Osinbajo disclosed this while speaking at an ongoing security summit organised by the National Economic Council holding at the Presidential Villa, Abuja. He said the Terrorism Prevention Act 2011 as amended defines terrorism as an act deliberately done with malice which may seriously harm a country or is intended or can be reasonably regarded as having been done to seriously intimidate a population. The Acting President said, “Silence in such situations can only be seen as an endorsement. “Hate speech and the promotion of the same through history from Nazi Germany and the extermination of Jews to the Rwandan genocide succeeded in achieving their barbarous ends by the silence of influential voices," he said.

After a crucial meeting held at Abuja this morning the National President of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, (ASUU) said the federal government and the union have finally reached a compromise and the strike has finally been called off sequel to the fact that their needs have been met by the federal government. He urged students to go back to their various schools and start work,and also lamented that the lecturers should resume work too but they should not teach the students. ​The Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu, yesterday assured Nigerians that the industrial action embarked upon by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), may end in two days. DENMARK, NIGERIA TO TACKLE IRREGULAR MIGRATION

Danish Development Cooperation Minister Ulla Tornæs, on Wednesday, expressed her country’s determination to assist Nigeria tackle irregular migration from the country to Denmark and Europe. Tornaes stated this while addressing journalists at the end of a close-door meeting between a delegation from Denmark and Foreign Affairs Minister Geoffrey Onyeama in Abuja. Tornaes was accompanied by that country’s Minister for Immigration and Integration, Inger Stojberg, and the Ambassador of Denmark to Nigeria, Torbben Getterman, among others. Tornaes, who said that the delegation was also in Nigeria to strengthen the trade relations between the two countries, assured that more Danish investors would come to invest in Nigeria.
