Scientists just discovered the first brainless animal that sleeps

Image
Snoozing jellyfish have confirmed that a brain is not necessary for sleep. Scientists made the discovery after observing a primitive jellyfish called Cassiopea that lives upside down on the sea floor and lacks any kind of central nervous system. The creatures, which resemble miniature cauliflower heads, have bodies that pulse with a steady rhythm. Videos of the jellyfish taken over 24 hours showed that they pulsed less frequently at night, but they could be “woken up” by dropping a little food into the tanks where they were kept. “It’s the first example of sleep in animals without a brain,” said US researcher Professor Paul Sternberg from the California Institute of Technology (Caltech). He compared the effect of the food to that of smelling coffee in the morning. A second sign of sleep was seen when the jellyfish were physically disturbed during their low-activity periods, forcing them to float in open water. At night it took them three times longer to recover and return to a resti

ports that a man had been crushed by a garage door. The supposed victim in Greene County, Tennessee, turned out to be a scarily realistic, early Halloween decoration. The department said it had received calls about a "suspicious person lying in a driveway with bloody handprints on the garage". Officers investigated, only to find it was a puppet stuffed with straw. Greene County TN Sheriff's Department wrote on Facebook: "ATTENTION EVERYONE!!! For those of you driving on Chuckey Pike in Greene County: THIS IS A HALLOWEEN DECORATION!

US 🇺🇸 slaps 📋 more sanctions on North Korea 🇰🇵, wants complete Denuclearization‼️

Image
President Donald Trump announced Thursday that he had signed a new executive order authorizing additional sanctions against North Korea by targeting individuals, companies and financial institutions that do business with the "criminal, rogue regime." Speaking before a meeting with South Korean President Moon Jae-in and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, Trump said his goal is the "complete denuclearization" of North Korea and added that the nation led by Kim Jong Un posed a “grave threat to peace and security in our world.” Trump noted that he'd signed the executive order just as China's central bank "has told their other banks...to immediately stop doing business with North Korea." The president praised Chinese President Xi Jinping for the "very bold move."

The Director-General of the agency, Mrs Mairam Kolo, who visited families of the deceased at Gwada Hospital where one survivor was receiving treatment, described the killing as “wicked and heartless”. Trump's 👨🏼 approval ratings 👍🏻 finally looking up! 📈

Image
Donald Trump’s summer swoon appears to be over. After months of declining poll numbers, the president’s approval ratings have stabilized — and even ticked up slightly — over the past month. Following a low of 39 percent in the POLITICO/Morning Consult poll last month after his controversial reaction to the violent protests in Charlottesville, Virginia, Trump is back at 43 percent in this week’s survey. Other surveys show similar results: Trump bottomed out at 35 percent in Gallup’s weekly tracking poll in late August, but ticked up to 38 percent last week. Trump is at 40 percent in the RealClearPolitics average, up about 2.5 points from his low-water mark last month. Trump’s popularity still remains historically low for a first-year president. But he has earned positive reviews for his responses to two major hurricanes, Harvey and Irma. And while polls showed his decision to wind down the Obama-era Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program — which shielded some undocumented imm

Tottenham 1 Barnsley 0: Alli sees off stubborn Tykes

Image
Dele Alli's second-half strike prevented a shock at Wembley as Tottenham were made to earn a 1-0 win over Barnsley in the EFL Cup third round. On the back of a frustrating 0-0 home draw against Swansea City, the hosts had to wait until the 65th minute for England star Alli to break the resilience of the second-tier visitors. Mauricio Pochettino retained five of his XI from the weekend as he handed first starts to Fernando Llorente and teenage defender Juan Foyth. And Llorente should have broken the deadlock after half an hour when he headed over from Kieran Trippier's corner, while Liam Lindsay also failed to get a close-range header on target with Barnsley's best chance of the opening period. Chelsea loanee Ike Ugbo regularly threatened as the Tykes grew in confidence after the restart, but the Premier League side's class eventually told when Trippier got away down the right and put the opening goal on a platter for Alli. Pochettino introduced Eric Dier to help

Leicester City 2 Liverpool 0: Okazaki, Slimani dump Klopp's men out of EFL Cup

Image
Liverpool's EFL Cup campaign came to an early end as second-half goals from Shinji Okazaki and Islam Slimani gave Leicester City a 2-0 win at the King Power Stadium on Tuesday. Substitute Okazki - on in place of the injured Leonardo Ulloa - was in the right place to pick up a loose ball inside the penalty area to break the deadlock in the 65th minute. Strike partner Slimani settled the third-round tie in style 13 minutes later, sending a left-footed drive flashing beyond goalkeeper Danny Ward to get his third goal in the competition this season. The result means Liverpool - beaten finalists in 2016 - are still yet to record a win in September, a worrying four-game rut they will hope to stop on Saturday when the two teams meet again at the same venue in Premier League action.

American born Nigerian Zuriel Oduwole, like Malala, champions girls’ education in Africa

Image
15-year-old Zuriel Oduwole from Los Angeles has been granted audiences with no fewer than 24 presidents and prime ministers on her crusade to promote education for girls in Africa. Zuriel is following in the footsteps of Nobel Peace Prize laureate Malala Yousafzai, the Pakistani schoolgirl who survived being shot in the head to become the world’s most famous girls’ education campaigner. Born in the US to parents of Nigerian and Mauritian origin, Zuriel talks to African leaders “about making policies so that girls are able to go to school until at least the age of 18 so they don’t get married when they are 12 or 13,” she told AFP in an interview. Zuriel was in Paris at the weekend to help advocate for wealthy countries to boost their aid to developing countries to 0.7 percent of GDP. France’s aid budget is currently 0.38 percent of GDP. Addressing tens of thousands of youths at a solidarity concert in Paris on Sunday, the young American tried to sensitise them to the effects of pover

Messi breaks his own LaLiga scoring record

Image
Breaking records is nothing new for Lionel Messi, yet the Argentinian forward simply continues to outdo himself and has now broken his own run of goals in the opening five LaLiga matches. The start of the 2017/18 season has seen 30-year-old lead the Blaugrana's charge to the top of the Spanish top flight. His nine goals in the first five matches have been nothing short of sensational. Messi's previous best scoring record in the same number of opening games was eight, he achieved this feat back in the 2011/12 campaign. Deportivo Alaves, Espanyol and Eibar have all suffered at the hands of the iconic forward and it doesn't look as if the La Masia graduate has any intention of slowing down.

David Maraga hits back at 'threats' over Kenya ellection re-run

Image
Threats against Kenya's judiciary are increasing after a Supreme Court ruling to invalidate President Uhuru Kenyatta's win in last month's election, the chief justice says. The "savage" demonstrations were "intended to intimidate the judiciary", David Maraga said in a statement. In response to Tuesday's demonstrations, Mr Maraga said that he and other members of the legal body which selects judges were "prepared to pay the ultimate price to protect the constitution and the rule of law". His strongly-worded statement, which was made on behalf of the Judicial Service Network, condemned the "unlawful" acts of some of the demonstrators, which he said were "savage in nature". His statement also accused police chief Joseph Boinnet of not providing adequate security to judiciary staff, suggesting that he "repeatedly ignored calls to act, exposing judicial officers, property and litigants in danger".

Ivanka Trump 👩🏼 excited to meet EAM Sushma Swaraj while Indian 🇮🇳 Diplomat likens 😱 her to a 'half-wit Saudi princess'

Image
US President Donald Trump's daughter and adviser Ivanka Trump met External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj on Monday on the sidelines of the annual UN General Assembly session. Ivanka, who would be leading an American delegation to the Global Entrepreneurship Summit (GES) in India in November, discussed women's entrepreneurship and workforce development in the two countries. She seemed rather excited to meet the EAM and tweeted on Monday, "I have long respected India's accomplished and charismatic Foreign Minister SushmaSwaraj, and it was an honor to meet her today. UNGA" On the other hand, an unnamed Indian diplomat had told Bobby Ghosh in August, the editor-in-chief of the Hindustan Times: "We regard Ivanka Trump the way we do half-wit Saudi princes. It's in our national interest to flatter." He later added: “Yes, it is a shame that the US should be compared to a kingdom. But that is America's shame, not Modi's, or India's.”

Russia unveils statue of AK-47 inventor Kalashnikov

Image
Russian officials and Orthodox priests on Tuesday unveiled a statue in Moscow of inventor Mikhail Kalashnikov, whose iconic AK-47 assault rifle has claimed countless lives worldwide. Culture minister Vladimir Medinsky praised the inventor and called the rifle — which has been reproduced an estimated 100 million times worldwide — a “cultural brand for Russia.” Kalashnikov had “the best traits of a Russian: an extraordinary natural gift, simplicity, integrity,” Medinsky said. Born in a Siberian village in 1919, Mikhail Kalashnikov died in December 2013 in Izhevsk, the capital of the Russian republic of Udmurtia, where he lived. Six months before his death he wrote to the head of the Russian Orthodox Church, expressing regret for his role in making the world’s most commonly used rifle. “My spiritual pain is unbearable,” he wrote in the letter which was later published in the Izvestia newspaper.

BREAKING: Trump 👨🏼 at UN: 'US may have no choice but to totally destroy North Korea'‼️

Image
The following are the highlights of President Trump's first speech at the UN General Assembly in New York today. He began his speech by talking about the vision of the UN, and also said that as a President, he will always put America first. He also said that the US will no longer be taken advantage of in matters of trade and otherwise. "Our citizens have paid the ultimate price to defend our freedom,” he said. They have also fought to defend other countries represented in the room. “It is an eternal credit to the American character,” that they have fought wars abroad but have not “sought territorial expansion” and not imposed their way of life on other people. “We want harmony and friendship, not conflict and strife,” Trump reiterated. He said that member states must work together to confront “rogue regimes”. He then quickly moved on to his most important part of the speech, North Korea. He said the “entire world” is threatened by the nuclear threat in North Korea. “If it

President Buhari has just delivered his speech at the 72nd UN General Assembly in New York today. He stressed on the need for member states' cooperation during these 'dark and troubled times' and assured everyone of Nigeria's cooperation in this pursuit, He then commended the UN's role in settling civilians in conflicted areas of Syria, Iran and Afghanistan and thanked the governments of Germany, Italy, Turkey and Greece assisting refugees. “In an exemplary show of solidarity, the international community came together within my own region to assist the countries and communities in the Sahel and the Lake Chad regions to contain the threats posed by Al Qaida and Boko Haram,” he said on Monday. "We thank the Security Council for visiting the countries of the Lake Chad Basin to assess the security situation and humanitarian needs, and for pledging assistance to rebuild lives and livelihoods." He added that international community came together to focus on

DHS to end protections for Sudanese immigrants

Image
The Trump administration on Monday announced an end to protections for Sudanese immigrants, a move that advocates fear could be a sign of things to come. The Department of Homeland Security announced Monday afternoon that it would be ending Temporary Protected Status for Sudan after a 12-month sunset period. It opted to extend, however, Temporary Protected Status for South Sudan, which gained its independence in 2011, through May 2019. The decision was overdue. By law, decisions on TPS designations are required 60 days before an expiration deadline. With both countries' status set to expire on November 2, the decision was due September 3. DHS said it made a decision in time, but kept it quiet for more than two weeks and did not respond to requests for an explanation.

Four killed as explosion rocks NNPC Lagos depot

Image
Tragedy struck on Monday at the Petroleum Wharf, Apapa, Lagos State, after an explosion at the jetty killed four people. _A_ vessel, identified as _Histria Ivory_, was discharging Premium Motor Spirit (petrol) around 3 am when some hoodlums besieged it to scoop fuel spilling from the vessel. The activities of the hoodlums were to have caused an explosion, which resulted in the death of four people. Officials of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, men of the Lagos State Fire Service, Federal Fire Service, Nigerian Ports Authority and the Nigerian Navy were said to have been called when the jetty’s in-house fire unit could not handle the inferno. A top official of one of the oil marketing companies said, “The fire incident started around 3am at the Petroleum Wharf, Apapa, which is one of the three jetties in Apapa. It lasted for about one hour. The people who were scooping fuel were trying to open one of the manifolds through which the depots receive fuel from vessels when th

ASUU Announces ‘Conditional Suspension’ Of Strike

Image
The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has announced a conditional suspension of it nationwide industrial action. ASUU’s decision followed a reconciliation meeting with a Federal Government team which held today (Monday) in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital. President of the union, Professor Biodun Ogunyemi, who made the announcement, explained that the suspension was conditional, as it depends on whether the Federal Government would fufil its parts of the agreements. Today’s dialogue came after about two weeks following the union’s consultations with its various chapters on the terms of the agreement earlier reached by both parties. ASUU had been on strike since August 14, over unpaid arrears and demands for improved infrastructure in the universities.

Trump 👨🏼 suggests holding a military 🇺🇸 parade on July 4‼️

Image
President Trump was impressed by a military parade on Bastille Day in Paris earlier this year, and during a press conference with French President Emmanuel Macron on Monday, he suggested America will hold its own military parades on future Fourths of July. Trump's proposal initially drew laughs from the crowd, but he doubled down on the idea after the snickers subsided. "We're actually thinking about Fourth of July, Pennsylvania Avenue, having a really great parade to show our military strength. You know, this year, we've spent $700 billion, more than we've ever spent, on the military," Trump said. "And I think we're really looking forward to doing that. Speaking with Gen. [John] Kelly and all the people involved. And we didn't do it this year but we certainly will be beginning to do that.

US government wiretapped Trump campaign chairman

Image
CNN is reporting that US investigators wiretapped former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort under secret court orders before and after the election. The government snooping continued into early this year, including a period when Manafort was known to talk to President Donald Trump. The timing would indicate that the President was being tapped on his conversations with Manafort even after he was elected. The FBI interest in Manafort dates back at least to 2014, partly as an outgrowth of a US investigation of Viktor Yanukovych, the former Ukrainian president whose pro-Russian regime was ousted amid street protests. Last year, Justice Department prosecutors concluded that there wasn't enough evidence to bring charges against Manafort or anyone of the other US subjects in the probe, according to sources briefed on the investigation.

Zannah Mustapha, Chibok Girls Negotiator, Wins Top UN Award

Image
A Nigerian lawyer who helped secure the release of more than 100 schoolgirls kidnapped by Boko Haram in Maiduguri, Borno State was on Monday awarded one of the United Nations’ top prizes. The UNHCR said the lawyer, Zannah Mustapha was given the annual Nansen award for his “crucial mediating” role as well as his work helping children affected by the long-running conflict. Last year’s recipients of the award were more than 2,000 volunteers who saved the lives of thousands of migrants trying to cross the Mediterranean to Europe. Mustapha, who is in his late-50s, said the award was unexpected but he was “exceedingly happy” to have been chosen. “I look forward to being a worthy ambassador, for such a noble award,” he told AFP in an interview in the capital, Abuja. Mustapha set up The Future Prowess Islamic Foundation School 10 years ago, which has since proved a lifeline for children in conflict-riven and impoverished northeast Nigeria.

Former Kano State Governor Shekarau Mocks President Buhari, Brands Change Agenda A Ruse

Image
Former Kano State Governor Ibrahim Shekarau has described the "change" mantra of his party as a ruse. In an audio recording exclusively obtained by SaharaReporters, Mr. Shekarau said the APC is confused and has been lying to Nigerians about bringing change to their living conditions. "When Nigerians asked: 'When are we going to see the change we voted for?' They were told to wait until after swearing-in ceremony. After the swearing-in, they heard silence without change and they asked, when will this change come. The answer was until they resume office and they subsequently resumed office and nothing happened," said Mr. Shekarau. The former governor added that when the masses asked again when to expect the change promised, they were told to wait until the appointment of the Secretary to the Government of Federation (SGF).

Categorisation of IPOB As A Terrorist Organisation Is Unconstitutional – Saraki

Image
Senate President Bukola Saraki on Monday faulted the declaration by the Nigerian military that the Indigenous People of Biafra is a terrorist organisation and the ban placed on the group’s activities by South-East Governors, saying due process was not followed. “The announcement of the proscription of the group known as Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) by Governors of the South-east states and the categorisation of the group as a ‘terrorist organisation’ by the Nigerian military are unconstitutional and does not follow due process,” Saraki said in a statement on Monday. “Our laws make clear provisions for taking such actions and without the due process being followed, such declaration cannot have effect. I am sure the President will do the needful by initiating the right process.” The Senate President believes that “initiating the right process” will go a long way in demonstrating to the world at large that Nigeria “is a country that operates by laid down process under every circu

SHOCKING:END TIME-Biblical prophecy claims the world will end on Sept. 23, Christian numerologists claim

Image
A Christian numerologist claims that the world will end next Saturday when a planet will, supposedly, collide with Earth. According to Christian numerologist David Meade, verses in Luke 21:25 to 26 are the sign that recent events, such as the recent solar eclipse and Hurricane Harvey, are signs of the apocalypse. Sept. 23 is a date that was pinpointed using codes from the Bible, as well as a "date marker" in the pyramids of Giza in Egypt. Meade's views are not endorsed by Roman Catholic, Protestant or Eastern Orthodox branches of Christianity. Meade has built his theory on the so-called Planet X, which is also known as Nibiru, which he believes will pass Earth on Sept. 23, causing volcanic eruptions, tsunamis and earthquakes, according to British newspaper The Sun.

Caribbean islands prepare for Hurricane Maria

Image
Maria is expected to become a dangerous major hurricane as it nears the Leeward Islands in the Caribbean. The category one hurricane will rapidly strengthen over the next 48 hours and will hit the islands late on Monday, says the US National Hurricane Center. It is moving roughly along the same path as Irma, the hurricane that devastated the region this month. Hurricane warnings have been issued for Guadeloupe, Dominica, St Kitts and Nevis, Montserrat and Martinique. A hurricane watch is now in effect for Puerto Rico, the US and British Virgin Islands, St Martin, St Barts, Saba, St Eustatius and Anguilla. In its latest update on Monday, the NHC says Maria has maximum sustained winds of 90mph (150 km/h). The eye of the storm is 100 miles east of Martinique, and Maria is moving west-northwest at about 13mph.

MARIA NO LONGER A TROPICAL STORM BUT A HURRICANE!

Image
Maria muscled up Sunday from a tropical storm into a hurricane with sustained winds of 75 mph. Maria is moving toward the west-northwest near 15 mph. On the forecast track, the center of Maria will move across the Leeward Islands Monday night and then over the extreme northeastern Caribbean Sea on Tuesday. Additional strengthening is forecast during the next 48 hours, and Maria could be near major hurricane intensity when it moves across the Leeward Islands Monday night. Hurricane-force winds extend outward up to 15 miles from the center, and tropical storm-force winds extend outward up to 105 miles.

Police Arrest 9 Suspects Over Rape Of Church Members In Enugu State

Image
The Police in Enugu State said they had nabbed nine suspected rapists, specialized in raping female members of a church at the outskirts of Enugu. The Spokesman of the command, Mr Ebere Amaraizu, a Superintendent of Police, disclosed this in a statement in Enugu on Sunday. Amaraizu said that the arrest was made possible by a “well-co-ordinated intelligence information’’. He said that policemen in Ozalla arrested the suspects during a night vigil in a church located at Akpasha community in Nkanu West Local Government Area. He said that the suspects were rounded up at about 2 a.m. on Saturday. Real Madrid equal Santos' run of 73 consecutive games scoring

Image
Real Madrid have equaled the record of scoring in 73 consecutive matches set by Santos in 1963, after Borja Mayoral put them ahead against Real Sociedad. The run began on April 30th, 2016, coincidentally also at Anoeta with Gareth Bale giving Los Blancos a 1-0 victory and since then no defence has been able to hold them at bay. First they bettered the Spanish record that Barcelona had of scoring in 44 straight games and after that they overcame the European best of 61 by Bayern Munich before now equaling the all-time best set by Pele's Santos.

SASSUOLO 1 JUVENTUS 3: DYBALA MARKS 100th APPEARANCE With Stunning Hat-Trick

Image
Paulo Dybala marked his 100th Juventus appearance with a sensational hat-trick as the Serie A champions claimed a 3-1 win at Sassuolo. The 23-year-old scored five goals in his first three league games and struck again shortly after the interval to put Juve in control, expertly prodding home from a Juan Cuadrado pass. Matteo Politano hit back two minutes later, scoring from close range after the returning Giorgio Chiellini prevented Claud Adjapong's effort from crossing the line, but a sublime Dybala free-kick made the points safe. Juve climb back above Inter, who are also on 12 points following Saturday's win over Crotone, while Sassuolo remain just a point above bottom-club Benevento.

SHOCK! DEMBELE OUT FOR FOUR MONTHS

Image
Ousmane Demeble has been ruled out for up to four months in an injury blow that has rocked Barcelona. Barca have confirmed that the 20-year-old did, as feared by head coach Ernesto Valverde, suffered a torn hamstring in Saturday's 2-1 victory away against Getafe, which was his full La Liga debut. Dembele had to be withdrawn in the first half of his side's dramatic win, leaving the field after sustaining the problem while attempting a back-heel near the corner flag when the match was still goalless. After conducting tests on Sunday, Barca released a statement which read: "The tests have come back following first team player Ousmane Dembele has ruptured the tendon in his femoral bicep in his left thigh. "The player will be operated on by Dr. Sakari Orava in Finland this week. He is expected to be out for between three and a half months and four months." The problem, which is in Dembele's left leg, will see him miss the first half of the season in a huge b

MANCHESTER UNITED 4 EVERTON 0: LUKAKU INSPIRES LATE SURGE TO PILE PRESSURE ON KOEMAN

Image
Wayne Rooney's first return to Old Trafford since leaving Manchester United in the close-season ultimately ended in a 4-0 thumping thanks to three late goals, as Romelu Lukaku scored against former side Everton to heap the pressure on Ronald Koeman. United were poor for much of Sunday's Premier League match, but blew Everton away in the final stages, with Rooney – who previously missed a couple of good chances – powerless to help following his substitution in the 82nd minute. Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Romelu Lukaku and Anthony Martial all netted after Rooney's exit to condemn Everton to a fourth successive defeat in all competitions. Unsurprisingly, most of the pre-match attention was on Rooney and Lukaku, but within four minutes of kick-off Antonio Valencia had successfully made himself the man of the moment with a simply spectacular 20-yard strike. United were poor after the break, however, with their attacks becoming predictable  and slow, while David de Gea twice bailed

OSINBAJO URGES 💪🏻 MILITARY TO DEFEAT ⚔ IDEOLOGIES THAT PROMOTE MINDLESS KILLINGS

Image
Nigeria's Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, has urged military officers to support the Federal Government's effort in the war against Boko Haram insurgency and other emerging security challenges confronting the nation. Vice President Osinbajo spoke on Saturday during the passing out parade of military cadets of the 64 Regular Course and Direct Short Service Course 44 at the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA), in Kaduna. He was the reviewing officer of the parade said the new military officers must defeat the ideologies that promote mindless killings and anarchy, adding that Nigeria is confronted by enemies whose identities and motivations are unknown. Addressing the new officers, Osinbajo, said technology has advanced to the stage whereby people can now learn production of explosive devices on the internet, hence he urged the military to be more proactive in defeating ideologies that promote mindless killings and anarchy.

NIGERIA DOESN'T NEED HELP ON IPOP ISSUES-OYEAMA

Image
Mr Geoffrey Onyeama, Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, says the country does not require any international help to curtail any threats posed by the Independent Peoples of Biafra (IPOB). Onyeama, at a news conference at the UN headquarters in New York on Friday evening, said the threat from the self-agitation group would be handled. “IPOB is as of now an internal threat and Nigeria does not need international assistance to resolve it,” the minister said. According to him, IPOB is different from the Boko Harm terrorists which main aim was to capture territory and to kill innocent people. Onyeama said that Nigeria's population were young and restless over the state of the economic system which is why Nigeria faces a migration issue. He said, "If we can get the economy right and we can get the good governance to our people, we believe that most of our problems would be taken care of."

JONATHAN ASKS BUHARI TO REACH OUT TO EX PRESIDENTS AND GOVERNORS!

Image
Ex-President Goodluck Jonathan has advised President Muhammadu Buhari to summon a Council of State meeting to advise him on the crisis in the South-East. The Council of State is an advisory body which comprises former Presidents, serving governors, the Chief Justice of Nigeria and a few other prominent Nigerians. The former President said in a Facebook post that the tension across the country was unfortunate even as he condemned the burning of a police station by the Indigenous People of Biafra members. He also condemned the threat to human life by several elements across Nigeria. Jonathan said, “The reports I have received about recent developments in the country lead me to appeal to all men of good will to use whatever influence they have to push for peaceful coexistence and restraint on all sides.

NIGERIAN MEN AIN'T ROMANTIC SIMI SAYS😞

Image
As much as she has been rumoured to have had one or two things with singers, Adekunle Gold and Falz at some point, popular singer, Simi, has said Nigerian men “are not romantic.” She said, “I don’t believe Nigerian men are romantic. I think Nigerian men do not think they have to be romantic... I think the problem is because a lot of Nigerian men feel self-entitled and I blame our culture and our mothers." Simi said that she was once watching a Nigerian movie where an unfaithful Nigerian man left his wife for another woman. She said, "At the end of the day, the other woman left him and he retraced his steps to his initial wife. The lady’s mother actually told her to kneel in front of the man and that bothered me a lot even though I knew it was a movie. That is the way things are."

MEET WITH KANU, OBASANJO TELLS BUHARI

Image
Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has advised President Muhammadu Buhari to dialogue with the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, to curb the secessionist agitations instead of the deployment of soldiers to the South-East. Obasanjo said this during an interview with Newsweek Magazine. Ironically, Kanu, had in the past called Obasanjo an “evil man”. The former President said, “I don’t see anything wrong in that (Buhari meeting with Kanu). I would not object to that; if anything, I would encourage it. He said, “I would want to meet Kanu myself and talk to people like him, people of his age, (and ask) ‘What are your worries?’ Not only from the South-East but from all parts of Nigeria. Obasanjo, who led the final offensive that brought the civil war to an end in 1970, said he had seen too many wars and it was time for Nigeria to move on.

BRAZIL: INDIGENOUS GROUPS CONDEMN ALLEGED MASSACRE

Image
Prosecutors are investigating a reported massacre in which members of an "uncontacted" indigenous tribe were allegedly killed by illegal gold miners in a distant part of the country's Amazon. The news has been widely condemned by advocacy groups that say Brazil is backsliding on its obligation to protect indigenous peoples. "The government doesn't see protecting indigenous people as a priority," said Gilderlan Rodrigues, a missionary working with uncontacted peoples for Brazil's Indigenous Missionary Council, an organisation that monitors violence against indigenous people. "They want to open up indigenous lands for exploration," he added.

NIGERIA BOAT SINKING LEAVES 33 DEAD - EMERGENCY SERVICES

Image
The bodies of at least 33 people, some children, have been recovered after an overloaded boat capsized in the Niger River in north-western Nigeria. Emergency officials say they managed to rescue 84 people on board, but another 30 of the total 150 passengers remained unaccounted for. The accident happened on Wednesday morning in the remote area of Lolo village, in Nigeria's Kebbi state, but details only first started emerging on Friday. The boat had been carrying traders across the border from Gaya, in the Dosso region of Niger. They were planning to attend a village market in Nigeria. A co-ordinator for Nigeria's National Emergency Management (NEMA), Suleiman Mohammed Karim, told AFP news agency that the boat had a capacity of 70 passengers but survivors said 150 people plus their goods were on board. Referring to the remaining missing, he said: "Having spent two days on the water, we presume they are all dead."

The Nigerian Army has described, as untrue, media reports saying it has decided to withdraw troops from Exercise Egwu Eke II (Python Dance II) across the five states of the South-East. The reports, it said, falsely quoted the Abia State governor, Mr. Okezie Ikpeazu, and the General Officer Commanding 82 Division Nigerian Army as having provided the information on which they were based. In a statement signed by Brigadier-General SK Usman, the Army called on the general public to treat the reports as an unfounded rumour. "For the avoidance of doubt, the Abia State Governor in his speech stated that 'there will be a gradual withdrawal of soldiers on the streets of Aba and Umuahia from tomorrow'. This should not be misconstrued as withdrawing of troops earmarked for Exercise Egwu Eke II. The General Officer Commanding 82 Division has not said such thing," explained the Army.
